The name “grapefruit” refers to the fruit growing in clusters, much like grapes. Known for its tart, slightly bitter flavour, grapefruit is the round yellow-orange fruit of an evergreen citrus tree. Grapefruit essential oil is extracted from the outer peel of the fruit and is valued for its many uses, beneficial properties, fresh aroma and distinctive taste.

Use only when diluted. Do not take more than one drop per day. Keep out of reach of children. Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. In case of skin contact, avoid sunlight and UV rays for at least 12 hours.

Sourcing

Grapefruit is a hybrid of sweet orange and pomelo. The „x“ in the Latin name (Citrus x paradisi) refers to this hybrid origin. It was developed in Barbados sometime in the 1750s. Grapefruit trees are usually 5–6 metres tall, although they can sometimes grow as tall as 15 metres. The essential oil from the fruit is cold pressed from the peel. Like many other citrus oils, Grapefruit essential oil is also produced from fruit that the fresh-fruit industry does not use. Grapefruits that can no longer be sold on the fresh market because of bruising or other cosmetic defects are typically processed into juice and essential oil. The fruit juice and the oil it contains are separated, allowing the rejected fruit to be put to two uses at once.
